Reception Poster

Since our trip to Mexico this past winter, we have been in conversation with women from indigenous villages around the mountains of Zongolica, Veracruz. During this time with them, we’ve learned not only about the sacrifices they have made in their lives, but about their strength as they fill their households with love, teach their children important cultural values and make sure they get a good education while their husbands and sons are working hard on the other side of the border to help create a better life for their whole families. To us, these women exemplify chicāhuac, the Nahuatl word for strong, robust, and powerful. Through a collaboration with the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and the Wisconsin Latinx History Collective, we’ve been working hard to bring their stories to life.

We want to invite you to join us at the opening reception on October 14th as we celebrate six women from Mexico who have shown us what being strong really means. As you walk into the lives of these incredible women, you can enjoy refreshments, participate in interactive activities, and learn about what inspired the creation of this exhibit and why they are heroes to their families and communities.

Please see map link of the McIntyre Library on the UWEC campus. The easiest parking is in the Philips lot (free after 4pm) and you can walk around the Davies Center to the library.
